quick Beginner Guitar question about chords?

Im about to learn guitar (acoustic) and i have it, (the guitar), just havent started yet. I hear from people whove gotten away with maybe five chords over the years, (just recreational players obviously) who can strum it quite well. So basically if i want to learn only about 5 chords that allow me to strum the guitar quite well in order to play for pleasure what could they be?

Interesting question. I just made a list of the chords I use, they are
C,D,E,F,G,A
A minor, D minor
G7, D7, E7
That is not a lot

There is a kind-of trap in playing Guitar Chords, I will try to explain it: many people who strum chords (like me) do not read music or even know what notes they are playing. This is because they only look at Tabulature, that is the 6 strings and which strings you hold down, and not the notes in the musical notation. If a beginner starts off with no interest in how the chords are built it can be very difficult to break out of that basic level and make musical progress. It helps to play the notes in the chord separately, like the C chord C E G C and back G E C, realising what the notes are and finding them in the musical notation. Don't know if I've explained that properly!
