How much money can I get for a 1980's Fender Stratocaster?
It is a rare made in Japan 87-88 model. In great condition- I just had it tuned up for $150. It plays great. Rarely used and kept in a case. Cosmetically, it has a very small amount of varnish chipping but that can be fixed. Color is a metallic black (slightly sparkly) that changes color/hues in the light. Has a black faceplate. It is a very unique guitar and I have had it since I was a kid. Would like to get as much money as possible for it. I have gotten online quotes in the past that are much lower value than I should be getting for it. I've also taken it to local stores and they gave me a quote of like $100, which is obviously bogus. It is a great guitar and rarely used because I play acoustic mostly. What do you think is a fair price? I would like to get $400 at least is that reasonable?
Hello! The Japanese-made Stratocasters of that era feature excellent quality, and some models are sought after by collectors and players alike. I have owned two 80’s Japanese-made Fender Stratocasters, and felt the level of quality was certainly comparable to the later American-made equivalents. This will give you a good idea of the price range the instrument would sell within; of course, a lot will depend on the specific model, condition, special features, color rarity, and desirability to determine final value.
