Learning Music Theory is Critical in Plucking the Guitar

Learning music theory may seem futile especially if you already know how to play a musical instruments and easily carry a tune even if you can’t read music sheets. After all, there seem to be no real substitute for talent, right? It is true though, that one can be considered an excellent musician even without learning music theory but it is worth mentioning that doubtless, your talent may be better expressed if you have the knowledge of music theory.
Here’s an analogy that could help you as you make up your mind about whether you’ll take up music theory or not. It is believed that writers are definitely made. Not very many people can write and translate their thoughts into poetry and prose. Being familiar with the intricacies of language such as grammar can make a writer more effective in communicating his thoughts and ideas because learning could always become an additional tool. Writers must be versed in wordplay hence they are required to know language and grammar. The discipline of knowing a language’s grammar improves your grasp of the art of writing. Nevertheless, just because someone knows the ins and outs of language and grammar, it doesn’t mean that he could be considered a writer.
A person who would enjoy cooking is an instance. Somebody usually knows how ingredients work, how a combination of taste and flavors can be converted into a wonderful dish. Understanding flavors is a wonderful gift that could be developed if one can actually go to a cooking school to learn the fundamentals of cooking. This will provide a logical method of learning and you’ll be able to make sense of the things that often came naturally.
In short, before you can do anything you please, you would have to know them beforehand. In playing guitar, it’s great if you know how to play by ear. Steve Krenz shows off this skill in his course, Learn & Master Guitar. Just having the talent toknow notes and put them together even without the aid of music sheets can make you a great guitar player. But in order to be great at guitar playing, you would have to learn music concept. Because you speak the same language and are educated with the “grammar” or technicalities of music, it is simplier to share your music with other musicians especially if you write your own music. Its given that even if you know the notes of music as well as the back of your hand, nothing can overcome real talent.
Even if you have the discipline to master music theory, it doesn’t make you an artist out of a musician but it can at least teach you how to make good music. Inspired music can someday be considered good music. By means hard work and consistency, the same will pay off in the end.
