Guitar Party Supplies

I'm moving to Los Angeles and I need alot of info on what I need and a good place to live at in a studio apt.?
I will be mving there around June 2011, I will be 18, I have a 6-speed JEEP ( should I keep it or get an automatic transmission cause I heard the traffic sucks, but I love in Houston so maybe it'll be the same) I am basically going up there with a vehicle a moth supply o clothes and my bass guitar ( moving out there to follow my dreams of becoming a famous musician. And I was just wanting to know of a good area to live in where I can work while doing my music, but also has a fun night life ( because like all teenagers I like to drink and party ) as gay as that is to type. But I'm trying to get ALL the info in here cause well I'm MOVING my whole life there. So if you could tell me some good studio apartments, if I should go with a room mate, or ANY little tid bit of information that I can find useful, like how much money I should go there to start off with and what that money would be used for. cause as I said before this is my whole future I'm talking about.
Hiya PJ ~
This is what a smart person does: They listen to people who are older and wiser, and they follow good advice.
LA is the kind of place that will chew you up and spit you out unless you have a solid, smart, workable plan for living here. This is an idea of how much it costs to just exist for a month in a small apartment:
Rent: $1,000 (you could get a roommate, but that's like a box'a chocolates - ya never know what yer gonna get;
Food: $200 or so, based on $50 per week which is do-able if you're smart and frugal;
Utilities (power, phone/cable/internet, trash, etc): $200 or so
Gas for the Jeep (which you might consider selling in favor of something better on gas): $150-$200 and this is based on one tank per week @ around $40-50 per tank, so adjust this for how much it costs to fill 'er up ... so we are now at around $1,600 per month, and that's just for rent, food, lights/phone/internet, and gas in the Jeep. We haven't even touched on insurance for the Jeep, or clothing, or your health and beauty stuff (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toilet paper, dish soap and other cleaning stuff), or movies and restaurants and other entertainment stuff. Basically, it's expensive to live here ... so, what's your plan?
You MUST have a plan. How will you earn the cash to live here apart from following your dream of being a rock star? The reality is that as an 18 year old with no marketable skills, you're most likely to end up earning minimum wage doing something like retail, unless you can get a job doing something that earns tips. I strongly suggest that kind of job, maybe at a swanky hotel as a bell hop or a valet parking the cars. You can count on a buck or two for every bag, and around $3 for every car you bring up, so that's a good way to earn extra cash.
Your best plan is to save every penny, and not come here until you have at least 6 months of living expenses in the bank. If you're bank balance isn't at least $12,000 or more, you're a fool to leave town, especially in the current and (for the foreseeable future, which extends to June 2011) job market.
Of course you've heard stories of the guy who comes here with $1.89 in his pocket, hits the paper and sees an ad for a band looking for a bass player, goes on the audition, gets hired and in 6 months has a fat and happy record deal with the band ... but actually counting on that happening is why LA chews you up and spits you out. This city is hard, and unfeeling, and not for the squeamish or faint of heart. You'll trust the wrong people and get stomped on if you're not smart, and if you don't HAVE A PLAN.
So ... what's your plan?
