How to get better at guitar?
I've been playing for about four years and I feel that I have learned next to nothing. I can play one song that I figured out from the recording along with it's solo tab. But I can't learn other songs. I try to learn songs out of books but no matter how much I practice, I can't get better. I always get stuck on the intro on 99% of songs I try to play. I can play scales and exercises fine, but not songs. I try to learn semi-easy intro to older songs, (I like rockabilly; 1950's music etc.) but end up confused on just a note or two. It's very annoying to get all the intro/solo correct except for a couple notes. Why is this? It also doesn't help that the music I like is virtually nonexistent in the form of sheet music. So how do I get better at this style of music? Should I learn Jazz? Blues? or follow a method book? Does anyone know where I can find rockabilly music? I have the rockabilly guitar bible.
If you've been playing for 4 years and can't play much, something is wrong. Something which you don't seem to be able to pinpoint, and something we can't diagnose over the internet.
Your only real option at this point is to get a good guitar teacher. They will sit down with you week after week, gauge your progress, analyze your playing style and learning style, and figure out the best ways to help you progress.
