electric guitar..? ^_____^?

okai, so like 2 years ago i asked mom if i could have a guitar, and she's all like, sure okay.i told her that maybe we should wait a bit though.so, here i am, 2 years later, and i wanna start a band.:Dbut, i want like private guitar lessons, well i don't really want guitar lessons at all, i want to learn myself, but mom wont let me D;okai, so private lessons.cos i seriously hate embarrasing myself infront of loads of people.how much moar expensive are they?also, i want an electric guitar, but mom said that she'll buy me an acoustic and electric one,i really don't want her to spend that much money,but she says it's okay.how can i like convince her to just get me the electric?kay, thanks !?

Well hopefully you are a good guitar player because you won't be a writer, that's for sure. A lot of people are self taught, that's how I learned and nearly all my friends that are also in bands learned that way. Seriously a good book is playing Guitar For Dummies, it will teach you the basics. If you want to read music as opposed to tabs, then I recommend lessons, but it isn't necessary. If you learn chords and scales that can get you by. As far as the cost of guitars go, you can get them pretty cheap from either a pawn shop or maybe a good deal on ebay. Or you can do what I did, find a girlfriend that makes a lot of money and buys you a gibson les paul. Ha. Good luck and keep rockin!
